As Plato once said, “Number are the highest degree of knowledge. It is knowledge itself.” Statistics hold the same power; they give us an objective look at a situation. However, statistics can be treated much like “referees and umpires that can be argued with and manipulated when we don’t like what they tell us.”

cott Flansberg is so good at math that Regis Philbin gave him the nickname “The Human Calculator!” His expertise is not limited to a couple types of functions either; he can add, subtract, multiply, divide, and even do square and cube roots - all with lightning-fast speed and precision.

In the game show, The Price is Right, there is an event in which three contestants each have two opportunities to spin a large wheel. The wheel has numerical values on it; these numbers are the multiples of five between five and one hundred, inclusive. Each contestant, with his two spins, must get as close as possible to a total of 100 without going over. The contestant at the end with the total closest to 100 wins.
